If you think eating one would satisfy your appetite then I can assure you (from personal experience) that would be impossible. I love chaklis and this savoury brings a great texture combined with healthy ‘spinach’. It’s the time of the year for many Indians where they are busy cooking and experimenting for Diwali and this is my go at it. Hopefully you’ll enjoy this as much as my family does.

Ingredients for chakli dough:

  • 1.5 cups rice flour
  • 1 cup gram flour
  • 2 tbsp roasted chana dal, powdered
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp butter room temperature
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • water as required to knead a soft dough
  • oil for deep frying

Ingredients for spinach puree:

  • handful of spinach leaves, 3 green chillies & 1/2 cup water – blend to a smooth paste

  • Combine all the dough ingredients well, add the prepared palak puree and mix well. Add water as required and knead dough to smooth and soft dough.
  • Use the star shaped mould and fry the chaklis on a medium flame till they are golden and crispy from both the sides.
  • Drain over a paper towel to remove excess oil.
