Description:
I’ve wanted to make my own jam donuts at home for months but was a little scared to be honest. I never liked the idea of all that grease due to deep frying so refrained from making these. Here I have adapted an oven recipe from www.mykitchensnippets.com and they turned out golden brown, soft and so amazing! Don’t be intimidated by making your own jam donuts, this process is so easy and straightforward.
Ingredients
- 1, 3/4 cups plain flour
- 50g granulated sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1 sachet dried yeast (7g)
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 2 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 70g granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam (use more if you like generous amount)
Instructions
Combine yeast, flour, sugar & salt in a large bowl. Add melted butter, egg yolks, vanilla extract and further add milk in batches while beating with an electric whisker for 2-3 minutes.
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and fold the dough around 20 times with a fork/scraper. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Roll the dough to 0.5” thickness and cut circles using a 2.5 inch cutter. Re-roll the unused dough and repeat the same process. Transfer the round cut dough on a lined baking sheet and cover. Let the dough rise for at least an hour.
Meanwhile preheat the oven to 190C and once they are risen, bake the donuts for around 15 mins. until light brown. Once cooked, brush the donuts with melted butter and coat with sugar. Shake off excess sugar and let the donuts cool.
Pipe some strawberry jam with a long slender tip into the donuts and enjoy!
