Description: As famously said – Anything is good if it’s made of chocolate!! Today is 7th July..World Chocolate Day, so how can I not be posting a chocolate based dessert recipe! Here is the classic and easy to put together Blackforest Mousse with some seriously indulging flavours!
Ingredients:
Cherry compote:
- 1, 1/2 cup cherries, pitted
- 1/2 cup water
- 1, 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp corn flour
Chocolate mousse:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (use dark choc chips if you like don’t like your mousse too sweet)
- 1, 1/4 cups chilled heavy whipping cream, divided
- 1 tbsp sugar, powdered
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Whipped cream:
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp sugar, powdered
Instructions:
Cherry Compote:
- Add pitted cherries, sugar, corn flour and water in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil and simmer for about 7-8 mins. until cherries have softened and formed a thick sauce form. Let it cool and keep it aside.
Chocolate Mousse:
- Melt chocolate chips and ½ cup cream over some hot water (or in the microwave in 20 sec. increments) until you get a smooth chocolate mixture. Set aside to cool.
- Beat remaining 3/4 cups chilled cream with powdered sugar & vanilla with an electric whisker until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the whipped cream into the melted chocolate in two additions. Once fully combined, chill for a couple hours to be firm.
Whipped Cream:
- Beat together the heavy cream, sugar and vanilla with an electric whisker until medium peaks form.
Mousse Assembly:
- Layer the cherry compote, chocolate mousse and whipped cream as desired. This mousse can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
